Quevedo y la filología de autor: edición de la silva El pincel
Abstract
Quevedo’s silva El pincel presents a complex case of textual transmission which reflects the author’s poetic and aesthetic evolution from the early stages of his career to his final development. The poem has been transmitted by 5 witnesses (3 of which are manuscript texts and 2 in printed format) which are the result of several years of reworking. The numerous variants between these sources are not limited to stylistic changes since these are in fact different versions of the same work where several European and Spanish painters of the 16th and 17th centuries are named and praised. This article offers the first critical edition of the silva together with a complete textual apparatus that takes into account the specific aspects of each witness. The introductory study analyzes the evolution of Quevedo’s collection of silvas and especially the different stages of the composition of El pincel, from the manuscript versions to the two printed texts which were published in the posthumous volume of the Tres musas últimas castellanas (1670).
