Codicological characteristics of the manuscript of privileges of the Kyiv City Magistrate
Abstract
The purpose of the work is to characterize the collection of privileges of the Kyiv City Magistrate, which is kept in the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kyiv, in terms of codicological parameters (fond 62, inventory 1, unit 1), in particular to describe the state of preservation, the external and internal signs of the manuscript, to find out the history of its appearance, to characterize the language of the source, etc. Methodology. In the process of writing the article, historical and codicological methods were used as the main methods, methodological tools of other sciences, in particular methods of paleography, linguistics, etc., were used. The scientific novelty of this publication is an in-depth analysis of the external and internal features of the manuscript, a study of the history of its creation, a description of filigrees, a general description of the language of the monument, etc. Such documents (certificates, privileges, decrees) are valuable material for the study of historical events, the economic development of cities in the past, and also contain valuable factual material for the study of paleography, codicology, the history of the Ukrainian language, etc. However, neither the codicological, graphic, nor linguistic features of the privileges of the Kyiv City Magistrate were specifically studied. Conclusions. The collection is kept in the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kyiv, contains 48 documents (from the year 1544 to 1659), among them 47 privileges, one extract. Kozma (Kuzma) Yakymovych Krychevets assembled this convolute for home use, most likely in the 20s of the 18th century, when he worked as a burgomaster. Under the diplomas issued in Latin and Polish, it is noted that the translators were centurions Anton Trotsyna and Mykhailo Yahelnytskyi. The manuscript was written in 18th century cursive in a neat handwriting. The structure of privileges is characterized by a clear form - identical beginnings, fixed constructions in the middle of the text and endings. Several filigrees (letters, coats of arms, animals) were found on the manuscript paper. The language of the monument is Old Ukrainian, full of Latinisms, Polonisms, Old Slavonicisms. We note the peculiarity that elements of the Old Slavonic language are not characteristic of business monuments of previous centuries.
