A DIARY OF A YOUNG VOLUNTEER BUILDING THE RAILWAY ŠAMAC-SARAJEVO IN 1947
Abstract
The saved diary of Lazar Rakić, who later became Ph.D professor of history at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad, witnessed on the enthusiasm of a generation who considered that the volunteer work on the construction of the railway Šamac-Sarajevo in 1947 was a significant contribution to the implementation of the first Five-Year Plan FNRY, and thus that they were building a new society. It is certainly a valuable source for those who will be dealing with the youth volunteer movement after the World War II, and the youth volunteer work as a form of engagement of the young generation by the new authorities. It was not only about the creation of awareness that they were building a useful society, but it was a school of the healthy competitive vigor. For many of them, it was a meeting with the new civilization changes, where they developed a positive competitive spirit.
