German children’s literature is still relatively unknown in France. Despite an obvious geographical proximity, despite early literary and cultural exchanges and some militant translations, German books for children are sometimes subject to blockages in France. The novels of Otfried Preußler, considered as classics of German children’s literature, are more or less unknown in France. Nevertheless, translations do exist: the purpose of this article is to analyze the translation process in the case of the novel Une délicieuse petite sorcière. This translation of Die kleine Hexe, published by Hachette in 1978, illustrates the exemplary failure of a linguistic, literary and cultural transfer.
