El museu de Vilafamés i la recuperació del nucli antic / The Museum of Vilafamés and the Recuperation of the Historical Center
Abstract
A principis dels anys setanta el crític d’art Vicente Aguilera Cerni va concebre crear un museu d’art contemporani al nucli antic de Vilafamés, el qual es trobava quasi en ruïnes, aconseguint el suport del seu alcalde, Vicent Benet. S’aconseguí que la Diputació de Castelló comprara el palau del Batlle, un edifici del segle XVI, en què es va instal·lar el Museu; alhora, molts artistes van comprar cases i les van rehabilitar, amb dificultats. Es va recuperar, doncs, tot un conjunt de gran encant, i es va evitar la degradació i destrucció d’un enclavament de gran bellesa. El govern de la Generalitat Valenciana, per decret de 22 d’abril de 2005, declara el centre històric de Vilafamés bé d’interès cultural (BIC), en la categoria de conjunt històric. Avui estem davant el repte de passar a una completa recuperació segons els moderns criteris d’una rehabilitació més planificada, de conciliar paisatge, urbanisme, i una activitat residencial i cultural òptima. / At the beginning of the 1970’s the art critic Vicente Aguilera Cerni conceived the idea of creating a Contemporary Art Museum in the historical center of Vilafamés, which was at that time practically in ruins. With the support of the mayor, Vicente Benet, he convinced the provincial government of Castellón to buy the Palace of Batlle, a building from the 17th century, where the museum was installed. At the same time many artists and friends bought houses there and started (despite some difficulties) restoring them. A whole ensemble of streets and spaces full of great charm began to recover, thus avoiding the degradation and destruction of an enclave of great beauty. A decree on the 22nd of April of 2005 by the government of the Generalitat Valenciana declared the historical center of Vilafamés a site of cultural interest (BIC) in the category of a historical set. Today we face the challenge of making a complete recovery according to modern criteria for a more premeditated rehabilitation, reconciling the landscape and urban area with an ideal residential and cultural activity.
