The attitude of the local population towards museums as tourist attractions on the example of the city of Belgrade
Abstract
Belgrade is the center of Serbian culture, education and science. The first museums in Belgrade were founded in the 19th century, and today Belgrade has 48 museums. The aim of the paper is to explore how many visitors come to Belgrade museums, whether museums are, in the opinion of the local population, sufficiently involved in the tourism offer of Belgrade and in what way they can improve their attendance. In the first section the paper analyzes currently available statistical data about museums in Belgrade, and then it is given the analysis of Belgrade museums as tourist attractions according to the opinion of the local population, based on poll survey. Based on the responses and comments, it can be gain a picture of the current work of Belgrade museums and the assumption of insufficient museums attendance can be confirmed. Proposals and suggestions for increasing the number of visits in museums in Belgrade come down to the improvement of marketing activities, the application of information technology and the need to create original programs that would bring museums closer to foreign and domestic tourists and locals.
