This article aims to discuss the increase in homicide rates in the city of Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, in the last five years, using a more specific analysis, the year 2013. Information on homicides was obtained through news reports from a local newspaper. Were analyzed variables related to the characteristics of the victims, distributed from the following categories: sex and age, place of residence of the victim and weapon used in the aggression. The study intends to bring to light elements to identify the structural pattern of death by aggression, seeking to contribute to the visualization of the panorama of urban violence in the city of Minas Gerais. Finally, despite the significant increase in indicators of homicide-related violence, there was no greater mobilization by the authorities and the population to confront the problem and recognition of the phenomenon as a relevant public problem.
