This paper analyses the film adaptation of the novel La Fe, by Armando Palacio Valdés, carried out by the consecrated filmmaker Rafael Gil in 1947. This process proved to be very difficult because of the religious qualms that the reference novel entailed, and by which the resulting film had to face not only a long production process, but also serious conflicts with the cinematographic censure (around the thorny subject of the dignity of the protagonist priest) and even, once concluded, a very adverse reception especially by a certain sector of the Spanish Catholic Church. This circumstances were product of the context of the Spanish postwar nationalcatolicism, which conditioned very directly this process of film adaptation.
