The introduction contains the review of the aspects of correlation of the general linguistic notions of modus and modality as textual categories. The author shares the views of a number of researchers, according to which textual moduses and modalities play an important role in the formation of text types. The purpose of the article is dual: on the one hand, it is an attempt to prove the thesis that the categories of modus and modality may in a number of cases serve the criteria of differentiating types and subtypes of artistic texts, «usual» and marvelled, in particular; on the other, within the bounds of the latter may differentiate subtypes of the expression of marvelling the text content, a so called «text history». It has been proved that modus and modality form the basis of differentiating ontological, perceptive, behavioural, mental, language and communicative types of marvelling texts and their extracts.
