In 1979, the Computer Systems Engineering (ISC) degree began at the Technological Institute of San Luis Potosí (ITSLP), belonging to the National Technological Institute of Mexico (TecNM) with a group of 26 students. In 2003 it reached a population of 815 students; since 2004 it has been decreasing, until it reaches the enrollment of 414 in the period August-December 2019. Over the course of four decades, there is a tendency to decrease the enrollment. In relation to the Computer Engineering degree, it started in August 2009, with an enrollment of 37 students, reaching a maximum population of 181, in August 2014 and, like the ISC degree, its tendency is to decrease, showing in August-December 2019, 121 students enrolled; situation that attracts attention and that is the reason why this investigation begins. The study has a qualitative approach, its descriptive scope and a transversal design. Interviews were conducted with teachers from the computer and systems department and content analysis was applied as a method to obtain categories in the responses. As a result, a diagnosis of the situation presented by the ITSLP Computer Systems and Informatics programs was obtained, which is detailed in the results and discussion section.
