Le système des passions dans la tragédie lullyste. L’exemple de la fureur

Abstract

What is the dramatic action in Lully and his librettists ’ “tragedies en musique”? We argue that it consists in the necessary deployment of a set of passions carefully articulated, according to an initially euphoric conception – some passions guarantee the world ’s harmony – that grows darker as the genre finds its autonomy in relation to the spectacular context from which it emerged.
