Landscape Geoecology and Applied Environmental Education: foundations for environmental planning and management
Abstract
In contemporary times, the imposition of the economic paradigm on environmental practices adopted by the development models undertaken is perceived. Consequently, the results are environmental and social impacts that de-characterize the landscape, unbalance the ecogeographic systems and services, and harm the quality of the environment and the quality of life of the populations. Thus, environmental planning and management works substantiated by Environmental Education practices are fundamental for the conservation and preservation of the natural environment, as well as for the construction and consolidation of a new geoecological consciousness. This study discusses the epistemological bases and the methodological framework of Geoecology of Landscapes and Applied Environmental Education aiming at territorial planning and management with a view to equitable land use planning. It has sustainable development as a horizon and Applied Environmental Education as a strategy, both for planning and environmental management as for construction, consolidation, and implementation of geoecological awareness to change perception, values, and environmental attitudes.
