Un jeu de regards. Réflexions sur l’élaboration du portrait royal dans la peinture hellénistique
Abstract
This study, that bears on the portraits of the sovereigns of the Hellenistic era, brings out the elements of a semantics of the adopted iconographic formulae. The point is to examine the construction of the royal image and more particularly the sovereign’s face. The motivations of the silent partner, the know-how of the artist and the look of the spectator on the royal image are in turn examined. The notions of verisimilitude and idealization will also be approached.
