International sanctions on Iraq and its legitimacy
Abstract
International sanctions in Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations are of great importance in the contemporary international community as a means of respecting the provisions of the rules of international law for the maintenance of peace and security. We have dealt with the situation of the application of international sanctions against Iraq and the ambiguities of the Security Council resolutions which have raised many criticisms and questions about the nature These resolutions, and their legitimacy, through the framing of international sanctions in Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations in their abstract legal framework. That what happened in the case of Iraq through the Security Council in issuing its numerous and rapid decisions and its violations of its functional competencies stipulated in the Articles of the Charter constituted a flagrant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty and safety. It represented the greatest violation of its sovereignty and independence resulting from the total destruction of the infrastructure and the elimination of any manifestation Which constitutes a clear violation of the rules of international law and the principles of the Charter of the United Nations.
