S.A. Teploukhov and Gero Von Merhart: Century-Long Dialogue
Abstract
The paper is dedicated to a dialogue of two leading Siberian archaeologists of the 1920s - S.A. Teploukhov and Gero von Merhart. Unfortunately, the scientists’ communication was short – it was limited to two personal meetings in 1920–1921 and six letters in 1920–1929. It was, nevertheless, fruitful. It resulted in the creation by S.A. Teploukhov of a well-known chronological scheme of ancient cultures of Southern Siberia, which in general terms remains relevant today. The Russian-German cooperation, started by the scientists in the summer of 1920, continued in the joint work of their students. The echoes of these contacts have reached our days.
