Among the strategies used by the Portuguese authoritarian regime to intervene in the economy is industrial conditioning. This mechanism was based on the control of the emergence of new factories, in order to regulate private initiative. Developing the issue of the link between agricultural production and industrialization, this article follows the way of factories dedicated to the processing of vegetables and fruits, in order to perceive the functioning of the industrial conditioning and the agents involved in the process. The paper finishes with an overview of the impact of corporatism and its administrative usages and impacts in the industrial conditioning throughout the New State.
