THE PRINCIPLE OF COMPLEMENTARITY IN FORMATION OF PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCE OF SERVICE AND TOURISM PROFESSIONALS

The research focuses on professional competence of Service and Tourism majors graduates and the principles of its formation in higher education. The aim is to identify personal competencies as the basis of professional competence and, on that basis, to identify the promising directions in the development of the departments of higher education institutions in Siberia. The author describes the principle of complementarity, which is applied to the field of higher education. In studying the professional competence of graduates the method of comparative analysis of competencies and their compliance with the requirements of the market of services in the spheres of service and tourism was used. The results revealed the problems of vocational training; to solve them, the author suggests using the principle of complementarity, the essence of which is the connection of the three main core competencies (communicative, cultural and creative) in the educational process. The author proposes some possible forms for the realization of this principle in extracurricular activity: the use of project technologies; engaging students in practical service activity with expansion of the spectrum of the higher education institution’s additional services; expansion of the forms of university departments’ cooperation with the business-association and employers. A basic conclusion consists in the following: the use of that principle will give positive results in forming the professional competence future specialists in the spheres of service and tourism.
