This text discusses the second symphonic poem Ave, Libertas! Op. 18 by Leopoldo Miguéz taking into consideration structural aspects that confirm the composer’s adherence to the musical language akin to that of German romanticism mainly characterized by the music of Liszt and Wagner. Accordingly, I examined analytical aspects of form, in particular, sonata form, melodic and harmonic aspects such as thematic transformation and tonal pairing, as well as the tonal design of the work. Furthermore, I discuss aspects related to military march as a topic that delineates the composer’s intended homage. Finally, I propose a table providing a narrative description of the piece.
