This article aims to present a brief analysis of translation solutions for names of fantastic beings of Brazilian folk legends into German. The translation of these terms arouses a particular interest as it launches to the translators the challenge to mediate the transfer of cultural and folkloric significance of a term in one language to another. In this study, on the basis of the classification of Särkkä (2007), the German translations of three Brazilian legends were reviewed: "A Cobra Grande", "Iara" and "Caipora", published by the project Volkserzählungen aus Brasilien of the Latin American Association, carried out with the contribution of students from the Friedrich-Schiller Universität Jena, in Germany.
