This paper analyzes a new form of organization of agrarian reform projects, based on the valuation of extractive practices and of the traditional communities in Amazon: the Sustainable Development Projects – SDP as a contribution to the understanding of environmental and social processes involving the dynamic of agrarian reform in Brazil. It also allows a reflection on different approaches to sustainability of rural settlements in the Amazon Region. The discussion will be supported by the case study of the SDP Nova Bonal, located in the municipality of Senador Guiomar, in the state of Acre.
