This article reviews the biography of Kazimierz Dejmek by Magdalena Raszewska (Warsaw, 2021). On the margins of the reading, the reviewer comments on the tensions, contradictions, and ambivalences present in Raszewska’s method of biographical writing. He analyzes the relationship between the portrait of Dejmek constructed in the book as an individual and a representative of a generation, between the way his private and public life is presented. The reviewer highlights the concurrent elements of traditional and new biographical methods, which make up a narrative striving for the fullest representation of the historical figure and, at the same time, a consciously constructed, literary story.
