Do Litoral ao Planalto a Conquista da Serra do Mar
Abstract
This paper summarizes the results of research on the history of overland routes between the sea coast and the city of São Paulo locus. It emphasizes the discovery, plotting and reconstruction of the original lost site of the Calçada do Lorena (Governor Lorena s Paved Way), designed by military engineers and built in 1792 for the passage of mules. It also presents historical facts on the first road designed for the traffic of vehicles, the Estrada da Maioridade (His Majesty Coming of Age Road), a route which gave origin to the road known as Caminho do Mar (Way to the Sea) of the motor car era
