Nonvascular autologous fibular cortical strut graft with internal fixation in monostotic fibrous dysplasia of femur neck- A case report
Abstract
Introduction: Fibrous dysplasia is a non-inheritable congenital disorder characterized by bone-forming expansile fibrous lesions that disrupt normal bone architecture. There are variety of treatment options-observation, bisphosphonate, Internal fixation only, Internal fixation with bone grafting. Case report: A 14 year old female presenting with an atraumatic hip pain was found to have a monostotic fibrous dysplasia affecting the neck of femur, without a pathological fracture. This was managed with biopsy, curettage and a combination of ipsilateral fibula cortical strut graft and internal fixation with fully threaded cannulated cancellous screw. Conclusion: Autogenic fibular cortical strut graft combined with internal fixation gives excellent functional results in a case of monostotic fibrous dysplasia in a weight-bearing region with good healing and no residual deformity.
