In response to the colonial culture and the postcolonial regime, the Francophone literature of the Maghreb has revolved mainly around the question of identity where « the self » is necessarily to be rethought in relation to the « other ». Within such a perspective, Abdelkébir Khatibi, as a thinker and writer, seems to be the central figure whose work under study questions deeply the problematic of otherness through the themes of origin, the status of stranger, bi-language, « I am another », applied to culture, especially in his latest book the Scribe and his shadow. The intercultural dimension runs through the author’s literary artefact, making of the literary sphere a space for the advent of the « intersign », which promotes the emergence of a polyphonic and hybrid literary territoriality that aims to reach the universal.
