Abstract
Dayak onion (Eleutherine sp) is a kind of onion which grows wild in the forests of Kalimantan that has great potential to be developed into standard herbal medicine. Based on the study of ethnopharmacology, this plant is used traditionally by Dayak tribes as a medicine for diabetes, stroke, breast cancer, antihypertension, accelerating wound closure, and heart treatment. Although it has been used by the community for generations and continuous research, Dayak onions have not been formally used by doctors for clinical treatment. This is due to the absence of an accurate and standardized test, which can be used as scientific evidence. On the other hand, many people argue that the use of Dayak onions as herbs can be dangerous because of complications due to mixing with medicinal chemicals (BKO). Thus, onion Dayak needs to be endeavored in the Herbification Program to realize standardized, quality and safe herbal, standardized herbal medicines and phytopharmaca. Therefore, this article will discuss some research on onion bioactivity of Dayak from phytochemicals to preclinical testing stages.
