Mathematical demands of oil industry in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro

In the northern region of the Rio de Janeiro State, the oil industry is a strong employer of skilled technicians at HIgh School level. Mathematics is crucial for these professionals because they work with skills including logical thinking, the power of reasoning and problem solving, among others. The article presents the results of a qualitative research survey that determined, according to four surveyed groups, which mathematical demands are necessary for the High School technicians that work in the upstream area of the oil industry in the Campos Basin. The results show that content, methodologies and skills intersect Mathematics and this type of work in various sectors of the industry.
