Lygia Fagundes Telles is a name of major importance in the Brazilian literary scenario. In her novels and short stories Lygia takes a stance as a writer-witness of her time, as a twentieth-century woman experiencing and defending social struggles for feminine autonomy. Attentive to sociopolitical paradigms and to the fictionality of art, we observe how, by means of her characters and certain themes (behavior, marriage and betrayal), the author creates her literature intending to unveil (and transgress) the status quo in its multiple shades, leading us to question the current state of affairs. Thereby, we herein propose an analysis of the feminine representation in the short story “O moço do saxofone”, from the book Antes do baile verde (1970), in the light of issues discussed by Regina Dalcastagnè, Rachel Soihet and Mary del Priore.
