Abstract

Lead soldiers [Ołowiane żołnierzyki] or Boys in zinc [Cynkowi chłopcy]? Translator’s notes as a criterion in translation series analysis The paper is a comparative analysis of two elements of a translation series – Polish translations of S. Alexievich’s Цинковые мальчики. The most important criterion that helps determine the translation dominant and fix the character of both translation projects turns out to be the paratexts, particularly the translator’s footnotes, their number and nature. What is more, the author focuses on the way the phatic and emotive functions are fulfilled through punctuation in the original and the translations.
