Features of formation of the concept of development of regional botanical gardens and protected natural territories on the example of Ecological and botanical station «Pyatigorsk» of Komarov Botanical Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences

Ecological and botanical station «Pyatigorsk» of Komarov Botanical Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences is protected natural territory. The work of station is creation of collection of wild-growing plants, especially rare and endangered species, studying of flora of the Caucasus, an introduction of plants, holding excursions. The territory of the station occupies 13,5 hectares. In total the plant collection of the station contains nearly 1300 taxons. The herbarium of the station makes 1500 sheets. The request of visitors for improvement of excursion activity was cause increase in quantity of exposition complexes and improvement of methods of holding excursions. Preservation of "romantic charm" and a harmonious combination to a surrounding natural landscape became an important point in reconstruction of an exposition and plant collection. The defining role of compliance of ecological requirements of introduced species to conditions of the region and increase in a share of species of local flora became one more significant aspect of replenishment of a plant collection. We also have concentrated the attention on cooperation with public institutions. Accounting of local features helps to create original and extraordinary projects within the concept of development of a regional botanical garden or protected natural territories.
