Si vis me flere. Emotions in the mirror

Abstract

This paper addresses the issue of the actor's work with the aidof elements from neurosciences and philosophy. It presents texts by Horace in which he gives indications to actors and speakers. Suchassumptions are elaborated with texts by Diderot and Copeau in orderto raise comprehensions about the emotions and more rational tasks of the actor's work. It presents the concept of mirror mechanism to showhow mirror neurons in the brain are responsible for chain actions in the nervous system. It compares those mechanisms with the actor'swork.
