A Review of Studies on Hospital Organization Culture in Turkey
Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Organizational culture is an important factor affecting organizational outcomes of hospitals. AIM: : To examine hospital organization culture research in Turkey and to draw attention to the research needs in this area. METHOD: The study was carried out with literature review. National and international electronic databases were used to search the literature. The Turkish Medical Directory, Google Academic, YÖK Thesis Center, Pubmed, EBSCO Host, Web of Science databases were scanned to access related studies. Key words "organizational culture", "corporate culture", "culture", "hospital", "nurse", "health workers" and "doctor" were used in Turkish and English. It was aimed to access the present works by January 2017 in the literature review. 38 studies were conforming to the inclusion criteria. Microsoft Excel, UCINET and Netdraw programs were used to analyze the data. FINDINGS: It has been observed that "Organizational culture", "Hospital", "Health", 'Organizational Commitment', 'Culture' and "Nurse" were the most frequently studied keywords in which the studies on hospitals organizational culture started in 2000 and their numbers increased by years, and the studies were mostly carried out in big cities, the research instruments developed by researchers widely used. CONCLUSIONS: It can be said that hierarchy, bureaucratic and power culture based on power, control, responsibility and authority related to the perceived culture in hospitals are widely characterized. In addition, there is a need for more research on the organizational culture of hospitals in Turkey. The use of research instruments with validity and reliability in future studies and extensive studies involving hospitals in different cities will be helpful in understanding the organizational culture of hospitals.
