The work in question aimed to contribute to the implementation of the principle of efficiency within the public domain, by proposing improvements in the processes inherent to the management of the furniture collection in a public institution of higher education (IPES). For this, this study was oriented by the Lean Thinking methodology applied according to the method called Business Process Management (BPM). In this sense, this work was made possible by means of a qualitative case study, in which unstructured interviews were carried out with employees of the institution, as well as the analysis of specific documents of the body and the legislation pertinent to its activities. This fact allowed for the mapping of the activities related to the management process of the university furniture collection, as well as the identification of its relevant problems. At the same time, using the directions proposed in the literature, it was possible to identify losses in this process, as well as suggesting methods to remedy such problems.
