Comparative Study of Laminated Exoskeletal versus Modular Endoskeletal Below Knee Prostheses

The purpose of this study was to compare the endoskeletalmodular below knee prosthesis and the exoskeletallaminated below knee prosthesis for their acceptability,durability and cost effectiveness. Forty unilateral belowknee amputees between 15-55 years using laminatedbelow knee prosthesis (n=20) and endoskeletal modularprosthesis (n=20) for more than 6 months wereinterviewed regarding period of gait training, architecturalbarriers, need for repair, stability, comfort, cosmesis, easewith activities of daily living (ADL) and patient’ssatisfaction. It was found that modular below kneeprosthesis was superior in terms of ease of fabrication,shorter hospital stay, less expensive, stable andcomfortable as compared to the laminated below kneeprosthesis
