La más asombrosa arma moderna del arsenal Occidental: Militarización femenina en el mundo contemporáneo The most astoundingly modern weapon in the western arsenal: Female militarization in the contemporary world
Abstract
El fuerte incremento del componente femenino en muchos ejércitos, insólito en tiempos de paz, el ingreso de mujeres a especialidades de combate a las que en otros tiempos accedían sólo excepcionalmente, así como a posiciones de mando impensables para ellas algunas décadas atrás, muestran que en los últimos treinta años se vienen produciendo ciertos cambios en instituciones armadas históricamente caracterizadas como cerrado reducto de la masculinidad. El presente trabajo explora el sentido de dichos cambios, procurando mostrar, en primer lugar, su colisión con representaciones de género hondamente afirmadas. Traza a continuación una breve historia de la cuestión, llegando hasta el tiempo presente, para argumentar luego acerca de algunos de los puntos más polémicos del debate contemporáneo sobre el asunto: el impacto de la presencia femenina en la eficacia de las unidades militares; las problemáticas perspectivas de que esa presencia, por sí misma, transforme radicalmente las fuerzas armadas y repercuta de manera positiva sobre las relaciones de género en el mundo civil; la forma en que ciertas cuestiones de género vienen siendo vinculadas con las discusiones sobre la seguridad internacional.The strong increase of the female component in many armies, unusual in times of peace, the admission of women to combat specialties that in other times they only accede exceptionally, and the access to power positions that used to be unthinkable a few decades ago show us that in the last thirty years certain changes has been made in institutions historically known as almost exclusively for men. The present work explores the sense of such change, showing in the first place, its collision with male and female representations deeply assumed as true. On the following lines there is a brief story of the matter, reaching the present time to argue later about some of the controversial issues of the contemporary debate about this particular topic, as the impact of the female presence in the armies and their effectiveness in the military units; the dubious perspective of that presence by it self radically transforms the armies and in this way affects positively the male-female relationships in the civil world; the way in that certain gender issues are being connected with the arguments about the international security.
