Quincke's disease, challenge of the Specialist in Otorhinolaryngology
Abstract
Quincke's disease or hereditary angioedema is a genetic disease caused by the functional deficiency of the enzyme C1 inhibitor. It is a rare desease of autosomal dominant transmission , characterized by recurrent self-limiting episodes of angioedema. Its incidence is estimated from 1:10 000 to 1:50 000 habitants, it has been described in all races and affects both sexes equally and attacks affect the skin, abdomen and pharynx or larynx. Cuba, especially the province of Villa Clara, have been affected in recent years by the presence of patients suffering this disease. The rapid diagnosis, based on a proper physical examination, and appropriate treatment are essential tools to avoid complications.
