#30 : Optimal Number of Fresh and Cryopreserved Mature Oocytes to Achieve at Least One Top-Quality Blastocyst
Abstract
Background and Aims: The final success of the IVF treatment cycle is to achieve a healthy baby. However, it depends on many factors, including the quality of the embryo transferred. Meanwhile, the number of high-quality embryos is correlated with the number of mature oocytes (both fresh and cryopreserved ones) for ICSI. Up to now, no study has yet established a cut-off value for the number of fresh and cryopreserved mature oocytes required for a successful cycle. The objective of this study is to assess the number of fresh and cryopreserved mature oocytes per cycle to achieve at least one good-quality blastocyst. Method: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study that included 126 cycles with at least one frozen-thawed oocyte cycle at Tam Anh General Hospital’s fertility center from March to October 2022. To determine the number of fresh and cryopreserved mature oocytes for at least one good-quality blastocyst, we built a multivariable linear regression model, combining ROC curve and Nomogram chart to evaluate the effectiveness of the influence of the variables (number of mature oocytes, age, AMH, and BMI). Results: At each cycle, the mean number of good-quality blastocysts (type 1 and type 2) was 1.95 ± 1.91 with a ratio of 37.57 ± 30.53%, in which there was no difference in blastocyst quality between fresh and cryopreserved oocytes. The number of fresh and cryopreserved mature oocytes for ICSI to achieve at least one good-quality blastocyst in the frozen-thawed cycle was seven mature oocytes. Conclusion: Our study presents that the optimal cut-off number of fresh and cryopreserved mature oocytes is seven oocytes to achieve at least one good-quality blastocyst. The results of our study can be a reference so doctors can predict the oocyte number to improve efficiency and reduce costs for patients during IVF treatment.
