How are the feasible femininities or "ways of being a woman" in contemporary Poland formed by globalised ideas and movements, such as feminism or the anti-globalisation movement? To what extent do young Polish women regard themselves as being part of the world society or the European community? Do young women in Poland state a universal Femininity or do they rather stress national characteristics in their own constructions of womanliness? This article discusses these questions, based on empirical data (interviews, participant observations) from my ongoing dissertation work about gender identities and gender construction among a group of young, well-educated women in the Gdansk area in northern Poland.
