Organizational institutionalization of sustainability at Itaipu Binacional
Abstract
Sustainability has gained prominence in discussions in both academia and the organization, from the recognition that the adoption of an ethical and responsible attitude in business contributes to organizational results and society as a whole. In this context, this paper seeks to understand the institutionalization of organizational sustainability (TBL) at Itaipu Binacional. The research is characterized as a case study with qualitative approach. It has been found that the plant works in social, environmental and economic practices in a balanced manner, and its employees have low resistance to organizational sustainability practices favoring their survival among members. Evidence and results indicate that Itaipu is in the phase of total institutionalization. The main contribution of the study lies in the elements that show how the institutionalization of organizational sustainability provides legitimacy to the organization, acting as a factor that benefits Itaipu Binacional's strategic actions.
