Barcelona is a city, which through the democratization of public space in the second half of the seventies, developed with a noticeable intention of balancing the public and private. The municipalities’ efforts were focused towards the planification and regeneration of dilapidated spaces and the construction of new structures for public benefit. However, since 2007 new phenomena have come to light that emphasise urban problems in which public interests become less important than private investment initiatives. New market priorities, together with tourism and myriad immigration have caused an “expropriation” of the city from its inhabitants.
