Update on DNA methylation in UV radiation-related skin diseases
Abstract
DNA methylation is a common epigenetic phenomenon that changes genetic expression without altering the DNA sequence. With deepening research on DNA methylation, more and more variable positions of methylation have been identified in a variety of diseases(such as tumors, diabetes and neurological disorders). Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is an important environmental factor for skin damage and aging. DNA methylation is involved in the occurrence and development of UV radiation-related skin conditions and diseases. In this paper, we review the research progress of DNA methylation in UV radiation-related skin diseases, such as solar dermatitis, actinic keratosis, skin tumor, lupus erythematosus and photoaging, in order to provide new ideas for subsequent research in UV radiation-related skin diseases.
