Considerations about the influences of the cenozoic tectonics on the prospection and research of hydric resoursces - the exemple of south littoral Of Natal-RN State, Brazil
Abstract
Tectonic features of the RN-State eastem coastal zone were investigated . Geological , geophysical and geomorphological data provide strong evidence for the neotectonic activity which affects the Barreiras Group of Cenozoic age. The present study deals with the influence of such activity on the hidrology , mainly the research and prospection of groundwater . Hydrogeological investigations were carried out in and around the Dunas-Barreiras Aquífer System, which is a source for Natal and several other cities in the eastem coast of the RN State. Some zones of high transmissivity , related to the lithological , hydrodynamical aspects, and principally the aquífer thickness, were identified . The latter, i.e., the aquífer thickness, is shown as a result of the structural control of the Dunas-Barreiras Aquifer System, which seems to be the cause for the high productivity of some CAERN captations
