Electronic Library and Information Resources of Mass-Circulation Press as a Component of Newspaper Periodicals of Ukraine
Abstract
The library fund, which is kept by libraries today, has come a long way, which was reflected in the processes of acquisition, organization, development and formation of its structure, compiling of catalogs, bibliographic indexes and databases. Modern libraries are open to new forms of work, including ones on the basis of electronic documents, and are ready to become information centers. V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine consistently implements the program of disclosure and promotion of its newspaper collections by creating library and information resources of traditional and electronic type. This work is now concentrated in the Department of Press Studies, established for the purpose of systematic and comprehensive study of periodicals on the basis of developed methodological principles, scientific principles and research methods. Among the priority areas of the department work are: popularization of periodicals bibliography, its presentation as a scientific information product, presentation of the achievements of V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine in this area on an all-Ukrainian scale. Within the frameworks of the research project Attribution and expertise as components of book studies and other types of library collections: basics of theory and practice (the research is planned for 2019-2021, supervisor - Doctor of History H. I. Kovalchuk) the department conducts comprehensive study of the mass-circulation press of Ukraine. The Department of Press Studies works on the part of the project Historical and bibliographic research of newspaper periodicals of Ukraine: attribution, history, content and focuses on studying and disclosing the source and information potential of newspaper periodicals through scientific analysis of newspapers in accordance with modern requirements and tasks for creating bibliographic repertoire of Ukrainica and implementation of research results through a system of scientific reference publications, electronic information resources and scientific papers.
