ATATÜRK AIRPORT ACTIVE RUNWAY SELECTION MODEL BASED ON WIND DATA
Abstract
Southern winds cause long queues and delays at AIA (Atatürk International Airport) during landing and take-off operations. Recent research has shown that the main reason for the occurrence of long queues at AIA is due to southern winds. Even though numerous factors affect the capacity of the runway, runway capacity is directly affected by the wind factor. An accurate analysis of wind direction and power leads to obtaining correct estimates about the frequency of the conditions that cause capacity decrease. In this study, an active runway model for AIA is created based on the wind data of 2011. Suitability of this model is established by comparing the original wind data for 2011 with the data created from the model using a non-parametric statistical test.
