Dowry is one of the issues of marriage throughout history. Considering the similarities and differences of "dowry" in Jahiliyyah and after the revelation of the Qur'an, it is necessary to investigate this matter in order to explain the difference between the view of the school of Islam and the culture of Jahiliyyah. Therefore, by collecting information in a library method and referring to original sources and comparing and analyzing existing works, the present article has come to the conclusion that women had the least rights during the Jahili period. One of the financial rights that can be considered for a woman was the dowry, which before marriage was not relevant due to the absolute and unjustified guardianship of the father over the daughter and If a dowry was envisaged, it was for the economic exploitation of the woman by the man. Of course, it was also taken out of the possession of the wife by the husband under some excuses and finally, after the husband's death, the wife herself and her property were given to the husband's heirs as a share of the inheritance. In general, women did not play a role in determining the dowry in Jahiliyyah, and the female supervisor and the man themselves determined the task. By honoring the woman, the religion of Islam abolished the customs of ignorance in this field and called the dowry as a gift and returned it according to the skillful measures that were used in the text of creation to adjust the relationship between men and women.
