Abstract

TRANSPOSITION OF ANCIENT METRICS IN POLISH TRANSLATIONS – AN ATTEMPT AT CLASSIFICATION The article discusses the existing ways of translation – transposition of ancient metrics into Polish, along with a proposal for their classification. It addresses the issue of metrical equivalence in a language that does not have a quantity and it shows, how the principles of quantitative metrics can be replaced in translations of poetry. These issues are discussed by several selected examples from epic and lyric, and the types of transposition were defined and characterized.
