Environmental Kuznets curve and India: Evidence from autoregressive distributed lag model
Abstract
The present study examined the presence of Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis in the context of India. The study employed the autoregressive distributed lag model over the period 1971 to 2016. The negative square of GDP indicates that the existence of the EKC hypothesis in India. This confirms that the negative sign of the square GDP coefficient suggests that the presence of the EKC hypothesis in India. The statistical significance of the error correction term ECTt-1 with an appropriate sign (-) is an indication of the speed of adjustment towards the long-run equilibrium after disequilibrium in the short run.
