A meta-analysis of tobramycin and dexamethasone ointment in treatment of blepharitis
Abstract
AIM: To investigate and evaluate the effectiveness and safety of tobramycin and dexamethasone ointment in the treatment of blepharitis. METHODS: We searched in Pubmed, Medline, Embase, Elsevier, Cochrane Library, Wangfang database, CNKI, VIP database, Sinomed database, and gray literature were performing manual. The efficiency, intraocular pressure, adverse reactions and extract valid data were evaluated. RESULTS: Totally 8 controlled trials were enrolled, including 970 patients. Compared with control groups, the efficiency and the intraocular pressure in experiment group had a statistically significant increase(RR=1.75, 95%CI=1.29-2.37, P=0.0003; SMD=1.30, 95%CI=0.85-1.75, PRR=1.64, 95%CI=0.86-3.10, P=0.13). CONCLUSION: Tobramycin and dexamethasone ointment in treatment of blepharitis is effective with no adverse effects. Due to the quality of the literature is low, there is still need high quality randomized controlled trials.
