Environmental Awareness of University Students: A Scale Development Study

Abstract

The aim of this study is to develop a scale in order to analyze the environmental awareness of university students. In this direction, 76 five-point likert type scale items were prepared by searching related literature. The prepared scale was applied to 355 students of 487 students from Çankırı Karatekin University, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Department of Political Science and Public Administration. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 22 program. Factor analysis was performed on the scale and the items that the factor load of less than 0.50 were removed from the draft scale. In the reliability analysis, the Cronbach Alpha coefficient was determined to be 0.70. At the end of the analyse 33 items of 76 items were removed and the final version of scale was formed. The Cronbach Alpha coefficient for whole test was found to be 0.872.
