Unified modeling of the Multi-Cell Switched Inductor Boost converters
Abstract
The key advantage of the Multi-Cell Switched Inductor Boost (MSIB) converter is its higher voltage conversion ratio, a desirable feature for alternative energy generation systems. Yet, MSIB is comprised of a quite large number of reactive elements and switches, that pose a challenge for small-signal modeling. In this paper, a unified small-signal model of MSIB Boost converter is suggested that is based on the analogy between the MSIB converter and the Tapped Inductor Boost (TIB) converters. As shown in the paper, the MSIB converter can be modeled by an equivalent circuit derived from its TIB counterpart. Applying the proposed methodology, a unified small-signal model suited for analysis of multi-cell MSIB converter family is developed. The model was confirmed by simulation and experiment on a three-cell switch inductor Boost converter.
