The article concerned aspects of suicides committed on religious grounds, taking into account the rules of criminal law which may be the basis of criminalization. Although suicide in the light of criminal law is not a prohibited act, the legislator specified a number of provisions penalizing the bringing someone to suicide (including articles 151, 207 § 3, 190a § 3 of Polish Penal Code). What is more, behaviour taken in connection with the suicide may also be a prohibited act. In this context, the article analyzed the most common cases of suicides committed on religious grounds, like suicide terrorism, suicides committed in sects and the sati ritual. In the article used mainly the formaldogmatic method.
